yesterday emerson got the hiccups. he must not have had them for a while because he asked me... "what am i doing, mommy?"

"oh, it's just hiccups, honey."

after a while he came to me distressed and said, "mommy! my throat is hurt *hiccup*ing. it hurts!"

"don't worry honey... it'll stop."

"no! *hiccup* it hurts." holding his throat dramatically. "what is it?"

"sweetheart, it's all right. it's called hiccups."

"no mommy. it's called injury."

i love having a three year old.
