i think jasper is super cute.
i actually like them both! the only thing i can see going bad about jasper is the easy transfer to casper. that being said, i still think it's a great name. i think truman is really cool too. my 2 cents.
patti, i had a friend named tate who was super cool. i love the name!
I think it's great that someone is finally willing to name their child after http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasper_Beardley
From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I prefer Truman. Less of a 'snarl' to it.
i think of jasper from 101 dalmatians when i hear it.
but truman has a cool ring to it. very dignified sounding too.
I like Truman a lot. And since we're talking about presidential names that work well as first names, I also like Carter and Harrison. Bush -- not so much.
do kids these days know who casper is? i don't know.
patti... i love tate. and i think it goes well with fisher.
andy... we LOVE harrison so much but feel like it might be weird since we already have emerson.
thanks for the responses. :)
i don't know if they do. they did come out with a movie a couple years back that was the non-animated version. but i'm not sure that it was a hit or anything.
i love harrison too. i think it sounds fine with emerson.
i'm partial to truman out of the 2 options. :)
has leif been in the running?
how about kramer?
Even though I don't know you really -- I'll throw my hat in and say that Harrison sounds LOVELY with Emerson and Julian.
Otherwise I vote for Truman -- do you guys really like the historical Truman (as a history idiot I don't know much about him)? Because comparisons will be inevitable...plus I guess there's Truman Capote...plus I think Tom Hanks has a boy named Truman (I have a strange ability to recall celebrity children's names. Utterly Utterly useless skill but...)
Happy Easter and God Bless!
Beth
In response to Beth's comment, I recently read a biography of the historical Truman (more here if you're interested: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0671869205/qid=1145278645/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/102-8329559-8568159?s=books&v=glance&n=283155), and although I don't fawn over Presidents, I think it's safe to say that he was one of our better and more admirable ones, both as a leader and a human being.
When I hear "Truman" I think of the President and Jim Carrey in "The Truman Show" (a great movie). I have a positive response to both associations.
erica,
i love the name Jesper!
i think most pedestrian thinkers would assume you got the name from "The Truman Show."
yet another unsolicited suggestion: jaron (Hebrew origin, means "cry of rejoicing".) "jaron kay" has a nice masculine ring to it. :-)
My gut feeling is to go with Truman, and push the memories of my Fort Hayes teacher deep back in to the recesses of my brain. It's not fair to nix a name just because someone else had it.
So my vote is for Truman. I think it goes better with Emmerson if your going to have to yell for both of them to come into dinner.
Karl
What about Giuseppe?
Or Attilla?
Or Nash?
How 'bout Tito?
Alfred?
Or Hawk?
Elijah Kay has a nice ring to it.
I think A.O. Kay would be cool, too.
